SUNYAC releases athletes of the week for soccer, field hockey and volleyball

CORTLAND, N.Y.  - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honors seven athletes for performances during week three of the 2016 fall season in soccer, field hockey and volleyball.

FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Monica Harvey, Oswego
(Jr, M - Queensbury, N.Y.)
Monica Harvey helped the Lakers to a 2-0 week and was especially crucial to Oswego's victory against Elmira College on Wednesday. She scored the game-tying goal in regulation with less than two minutes remaining and then notched the game-winning goal in double overtime.

FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Sarita Charap, Oswego
(Jr, GK - Ocean City, N.J.)
Charap helped the Lakers to two wins this past week, which improved the Lakers record to 4-0. Oswego is undefeated to this point in the season, for the first time in over 12 years. In goal, Charap clocked over 150 minutes and tallied 10 saves while maintaining an .833 save percentage.

MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – 
Dillon Johnson, Oneonta
(Sr, N/A - Northport, N.Y.)
Johnson helped lead Oneonta to a 3-0 record last week with a pair of goals including one game-winner. After scoring a goal in a 4-2 win versus Vassar on Saturday, he netted the game-winner in the third minute of overtime to lift the Red Dragons to a 1-0 road win at Hamilton on Sunday.

MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK– Andrew LaClaustra, Plattsburgh
(Jr, GK - Merrick, N.Y.
Andrew LaClaustra posted his third and fourth shutouts of the season in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. LaClaustra turned aside two shots in a 3-0 win over Norwich University on Wednesday before making two saves in a 1-0 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday. LaClaustra is tied for the SUNYAC lead in shutouts on the season (4) and also boasts the conference's second-best goals-against average (0.30).

WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Emma Geyer, Oswego
(Jr, M - Liverpool, N.Y.)
Geyer scored two goals in Oswego's 2-0-1 week. The junior led the Lakers to victory on Wednesday evening against Alfred University, which was previously undefeated, by scoring the game-winning goal later in the second half. On Saturday, against another lossless squad in St. Lawrence, the Liverpool, N.Y. native tallied another goal with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation to earn the Lakers a tie.

WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Melissa Siegfried, Oswego
(Sr, GK - Mattituck, N.Y.)
Siegfried was crucial in the Lakers 2-0-1 week. She recorded two shutouts, allowing just one goal in the other game; each of the teams faced was previously undefeated. The senior notched eight saves during the week and recorded nearly 300 minutes in the goal. With the two wins and equal number shutouts, Siegfried moves into Oswego State women's soccer history by ranking in the top-10 in wins and shutouts.

VOLLEYBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- Kelly Waters, Brockport
(Fr, MB - Burnt Hills, N.Y.)
Waters has come in and made an immediate impact for Brockport in her freshman season. The middle blocker has been extremely efficient as a hitter throughout the season, and stepped up that efficiency this week. She had 32 kills while making just three hitting errors, hitting at a .468 clip. She's now hitting .406 on the season, which tops the SUNYAC and ranks in the top 25 nationally. The Burnt Hills, N.Y. native had a hitting percentage over .500 in three different matches this week, helping her squad to a 4-1 record. Waters also added six total blocks, including three in the match against Canton in which she also had eight kills, a dig and an assist.
