SUNYAC Honors Tennis and Cross Country Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its tennis and cross country athletes of the week for the week of September 12-18.

CROSS COUNTRY FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Mary Baughman, Cortland
(Sr., - Rush, N.Y.)
Baughman finished 21st out of 352 runners at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. She posted a time of 22:49.1 over 6,000 meters and helped the Red Dragons finish sixth out of 27 teams.

CROSS COUNTRY MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Galo Vasquez, New Paltz
(Sr., - Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.)
Vasquez earned a 12th-place individual finish at the Bill Fritz Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday. Vasquez covered the 8K course in a time of 25:57.98 to help lead the Hawks to a sixth-place team finish out of 17 teams. 

TENNIS SINGLES ATHETE OF THE WEEK -
Carol Tyson, New Paltz
(Jr., 2nd/3rd singles - Clinton Corners, N.Y.)
Tyson picked up a pair of singles wins this weekend, defeating her Plattsburgh foe 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to help her team clinch the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC East division. She also earned a No. 3 singles victory at RPI, winning 7-6, 6-2. So far this year, Tyson is 5-0 in singles play with a 4-0 mark at flight three.

TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK - Katie Fineman and Kim Givelechian, Cortland
(Sr./Sr., 2nd doubles - Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. (Croton-Harmon) and Roslyn Heights, N.Y. (Herricks))
Fineman and Givelechian won two matches, both by 8-0 scores, at second doubles in two Cortland victories. They posted a win at Alfred University Friday and at Brockport Saturday. In addition, both Fineman and Givelechian were 2-0 in singles play during the week at third and fourth singles, respectively.
