SUNYAC announces athletes of the week

FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Kayla McKeveny (SR), New Paltz
Position: F
Hometown: Holbrook, N.Y.
McKeveny notched a pair of goals at Geneseo on Saturday. During the match, she passed Danielle Conklin '14 for second on the program's all-time goal scoring list. With her 36 career goals, McKeveny now only trails Dani Ackerman '16, a current assistant coach on the team, who accumulated 39 goals during her career. For the weekend, McKeveny recorded five points and 11 shots (9 on goal).

FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK  – Colleen Roemer (SR), New Paltz
Position: Back

Hometown: Pound Ridge, N.Y.
Roemer helped the Hawks to a 2-0 weekend with wins at Brockport and Geneseo, helping the New Paltz defense allow just two goals. Offensively, Roemer tallied two goals against the Golden Eagles while adding an assist vs. the Knights. In total, Roemer fired off seven shots while limiting the opposition to just 13 shots on goal.

 

MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Ethan Gunty (SR), Geneseo
Position: F
Hometown: Delmar, N.Y.
Gunty scored four consecutive goals in the first half of the Knights' 6-1 victory over visiting Fredonia on Saturday, capping a 1-1 week for Geneseo. Gunty notched goals in the sixth, 19th, 35th and 45th minutes of play to lead Geneseo past a Fredonia team that was unbeaten in its previous five matches.

MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK– Connor Young (JR), Cortland
Hometown: Bayport, N.Y.
In two games last week, Young posted a 1-0 record with eight saves, a 1.000 save percentage, 0.00 GAA and one shutout. He stopped all three shots he faced on goal in 10:39 of action at Oneonta on Saturday after coming in off the bench. On Saturday, Young earned his first career start at New Paltz and turned aside five shots to post the shutout in Cortland's (6-2, 1-1 SUNYAC) 1-0 conference victory.

WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Melissa Smith (SR), Buffalo St.
Position: F
Hometown: Tonawanda, N.Y.                                                                                                   Smith posted two goals and two assists in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bengals that included a 2-0 start to SUNYAC play. The senior forward had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over D'Youville on Monday, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Geneseo on Friday, and then assisted on the only goal in a 1-0 win over Brockport on Saturday.

WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Taylor Carillo (FR), Buffalo St         Position: Goalie
Hometown: Pinebush, N.Y.
The freshman goalkeeper extended her shutout streak to 349 minutes, 55 seconds in a perfect 3-0 week including a 2-0 start in SUNYAC play. She needed to make zero saves in a 3-0 win over D'Youville on Monday, two saves in a 1-0 win over Geneseo on Friday, and five saves in a 1-0 win over Brockport on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- Morgan Roessler (SR), New Paltz
Position: OH
Hometown: Massapequa, N.Y.                                                                                                  Roessler led the Hawks to a 3-0 SUNYAC weekend, tallying double-digit kill marks in all three wins, totaling 40 kills for the weekend (4.00 kps). The senior hit .493 (40-7-67) while added 13 digs, eight aces and eight total blocks.
