Athletes of the Week selected for field hockey, soccer and volleyball

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its field hockey, soccer and volleyball athletes of the week for performances during the week of Oct. 3-9. Seven athletes from five different institutions were honored.

Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week
Sarita Charap, Oswego

(Jr, GK - Ocean City, N.J.)
Charap recorded a season-high 18 saves on Tuesday evening against the No. 13 team in the country, William Smith College. She also recorded four more saves in Friday's 3-2 triumph over Brockport, which is her second conference victory on the season. She tallied all 140 minutes played. 

Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week
Giovanna Fasanello, Geneseo

(Jr., MF - Clarence, N.Y.)
Fasanello keyed a pair of victories for Geneseo last week, including a one-goal, three-assist showing in a 7-0 win over visiting Nazareth on Wednesday and a two-goal, one assist performance in a 4-0 victory at Morrisville on Saturday. 

Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Dillon Medd, SUNY Geneseo

(Fr., GK - Bedford HIlls, N.Y.)
Medd notched back-to-back road shutouts to lead the Knights during an unbeaten week. He was credited with eight saves, including a first-half penalty kick, to preserve a 0-0 tie at RIT on Wednesday before stopping all seven shots he faced in a 1-0 win at Brockport on Saturday for his fifth shutout of the season. 

Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Witman Hernandez, Oneonta

(Fr, F - Huntington, N.Y.)
The rookie continues to impress in his first season with Oneonta. This past Friday, he notched a pair of goals to help lead the Red Dragons to a 3-0 shutout at Plattsburgh. The freshman currently leads the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 16 points.

Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Taylor Carillo, Buffalo St.

(Fr, GK - Pine Bush, N.Y.)
The freshman added three more shutouts this week to push her school record streak to seven games and 709 minutes and 55 seconds. Carillo made one save in a 1-0 win over Allegheny, two saves in a 2-0 victory over Oswego, and four saves in a 1-0 win against Cortland. 

Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Tianna Hatch, Buffalo St.

(Jr, F - Endicott, N.Y.)
Hatch netted three goals in three more Buffalo State victories this past week. She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Allegheny on Tuesday, and tallied both goals in a 2-0 win over Oswego on Friday. She also had one shot in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Cortland.

Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Aimee Spilman, Brockport

(Jr, DS - , Nassau, N.Y.)
Spilman led the Brockport team to another undefeated weekend in conference play, leading the defensive unit with 59 digs in three matches. The junior had her best defensive outing against New Paltz, digging up 24 balls in the three set sweep for an average of eight digs-per-set. She was also dominant at the service line, acing the opposing passers seven times including four in the win over Geneseo. The Nassau, N.Y. native played the role of distributor as well, assisting in seven Golden Eagles kills.
