SUNYAC announces Athletes of the Week for field hockey and volleyball
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its final 2016 field hockey and volleyball athletes of the week heading into the SUNYAC championships.

 

FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Gabby Stein (Sr), Cortland
Position: F
Hometown: Endwell, N.Y.
Stein scored four goals to help lead the Red Dragons (14-3) to a pair of wins last week, as the team extended its winning streak to nine consecutive games. In an 8-2 win versus St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Stein recorded a hat trick. She then tallied the game-winning goal 9:29 into overtime in a 2-1 win at Union on Saturday. For the season, Stein leads the Red Dragons in goals (16), assists (13) and points (45) and has moved into fourth place in career scoring with 150 points and is tied for second in career goals with 63.

VOLLEYBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK-  Morgan Roessler (Sr), New Paltz
Position:  OH
Hometown: Massapequa, N.Y.

Roessler averaged 3.50 kills per set this week as New Paltz went 1-2 against New York Regionally ranked teams, including a come-from-behind win over Ithaca on Friday, the No. 2 team. Against Union on Saturday, Roessler enjoyed a career-high 22 kills and was named to the Skidmore Invite All-Tournament Team. Roessler and the Hawks will host Oswego in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.
