SUNYAC announces Athletes of the Week for Indoor Track & Field and Swimming & Diving

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has made its picks for Athletes of the Week in swimming and diving and track and field. 

Swimming and Diving Female Diver of the Week - Meghan Bartlett, Fredonia
(Senior, - Johnstown, N.Y.)
 

Bartlett was a double-winner during Fredonia's home meet Saturday vs. Grove City. She had winning scores of 281.92 in the 1-meter and 277.63 in the 3-meter -- both exceeding NCAA zone provisional qualifying totals. In addition, Bartlett improved to 15-1 in all meets this season.

Swimming and Diving Female Swimmer of the Week - Nancy Nasky, Geneseo
(So., - Brighton, N.Y.)

Nasky won two individual events during the Knights' tri-meet split at nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. She won the 1,000 freestyle with the sixth-fastest time in the nation (10:26.66) this season and also won the 500 freestyle (5:09.02). Geneseo defeated Westminster, 215.5-84.5, but came up short opposite the No. 11 Tartans, 177-123. 

Swimming and Diving Male Diver of the Week - Arron Carlson, Fredonia
(Sr., - LeRoy, N.Y.)

A senior from LeRoy, N.Y., and Notre Dame High School, Carlson improved to 16-0 off both boards with two more wins Saturday vs. Grove City. He had a winning score of 312.82 points in the 3-meter and 326.40 in the 1-meter. Both numbers exceed the NCAA zone qualifying scores. 

Swimming and Diving Male Swimmer of the Week - Daniel Rodriguez, Oswego
(Fr., Free - Madrid, Spain)

Daniel Rodriguez continued his stellar young career, collecting three victories in Oswego's 127-115 win at Buffalo State. The freshman also broke two pool records on the afternoon. Rodriguez snapped Buffalo State's pool record in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 16:09.01nearly two minutes faster than the next closest swimmer for Oswego's first event win of the day. His 1,000-yard split time of 9:44.99 in that race also set a new pool mark. Rodriguez then took a nearly nine-second triumph in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.74. Finally, he capped the day with a triumph in the 500-yard free, touching the wall in 4:55.58.

Indoor Track and Field Female Field Athlete of the Week - Camille Wutz, Geneseo
(Jr, Elma, N.Y.)

Wutz finished first in the 60-meter dash (7.99) while also taking first in the triple jump (11.28m) to lead the Knights at the Utica College Pioneer Classic, Saturday

Indoor Track and Field Female Track Athlete of the Week - Abigail Boyce, Oswego
(Sr., Lockport, NY)

Boyce not only thrilled in the triple jump, but also turned in a record-breaking performance in the 60-meter hurdles, leading the Lakers in individual points scored on the day and helping her team to a second-place finish with 135 points. Her time of 9.54 in the hurdles not only earned her a first-place finish, but broke the facility record at Middlebury College.

Indoor Track and Field Male Field Athlete of the Week - Jon Rodgers, Brockport
(Sr., - Averill Park, N.Y.)

Jon Rogers who won the shot put event, breaking the facility record in the process. The senior recorded a throw of 16.9-meters, which broke the old facility mark of 15.79. Rodgers also posted a second place finish in the weight throw, with a toss of 15.9-meters. The men's side was highlighted by Jon Rogers who won the shot put event, breaking the facility record in the process. Indoor Track and Field Male Track Athlete of the Week - Ben Griffin, Oswego
(Sr., Sterling, N.Y.)

Griffin kicked off his senior indoor track and field campaign with a blistering-hot time of 1:55.63 in the 800-meter run at the Middlebury College Invitational. The Sterling, N.Y. native comes off the best time-1:52.69--of his career in the 800-meter run during the 2016 Outdoor Track season. The time, which at the moment leads the nation in the distance, led to one of five first place finishes for the Lakers at the invite and ultimately a second-place finish overall.
