SUNYAC releases weekly honors

CORTLAND, NY- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces weekly awards for Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field and Men's Swimming. 

Men's Swimming & Diving - Swimmer of the Week - Joseph Ruggiero, Geneseo 
(So., - Mount Kisco, N.Y.)
Sophomore swimmer Joseph Ruggiero earned a pair of event wins at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday. The Mount Kisco, N.Y. native earned victories in the 500-yard Freestyle, clocking in at 4:56.38 and the 100-yard Freestyle where the sophomore turned in a time of 48.64.

Women's Indoor Track & Field - Track Athlete of the Week - Stephanie Boucher, Plattsburgh St.
(Sr., Middle Distance - New Hartford, N.Y.)
Plattsburgh State senior Stephanie Boucher finished 17th out of 143 competitors in the 800-meter run on Friday at the highly-competitive Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University, clocking an ECAC-qualifying 2:12.05. Boucher broke a program record in the event by more than a second, and her flat-track converted time of 2:13.57 ranks her third in NCAA Division III so far this season. In addition, she anchored the Cardinals' 41st-place 4x400-meter relay (4:10.25) and clocked a 3:38 in the 1,200-meter leg of the distance medley relay that placed 14th (12:18.65). The distance medley relay foursome met ECAC qualification in the event.

Women's Indoor Track & Field - Field Athlete of the Week - Meghan Serdock, SUNY Oneonta
(Senior, Throws - Shoreham, NY)
Serdock was the top performer for the women's track & field team this past weekend at a pair of meets. The Red Dragons competed at both the FastTrack Nationals in Staten Island and at the Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University. On Friday at the FastTrack, Serdock threw a personal best distance in the weight throw with a mark of 17.48 meters. Two days later at Cornell, she eclipsed that mark by reaching 18 meters for the first time. Her heave of 18.01 meters (59' 1 1/4") won the event by half-a-meter while moving her into the fifth spot in Division III this season.

Men's Indoor Track and Field - Track Athlete of the Week - Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo
(Jr., Distance - Holbrook, N.Y.)
Garcia-Cassani set a program record in the mile on Saturday at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. He was the top Division III finisher in a field that also included Division I and II competitors, crossing the finish line 15th with a 4:05.39, clocking that is the second-fastest time in Division III this season. He was also part of Geneseo's fifth-place distance medley, anchoring the team to a 9:54.23 finish. 

Men's Indoor Track and Field - Field Athlete of the Week - Dawan Jones, Cortland
(Jr., - Buffalo, N.Y.)
Jones finished fifth overall, and was the top Division III finisher, in the triple jump at the Cornell Kane Invitational. His distance of 14.45 meters (47' 5") is an ECAC qualifier and improved his Division III national ranking to sixth in the event.
