SUNYAC Game of the Week: Potsdam vs. Montclair State Women's Soccer

The SUNYAC selected the Potsdam vs Montclair State women's soccer game as the game of the week. This contest saw Potsdam come from behind twice on their way to defeating Montclair State, 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday September 10, to win the New England College Tournament.

Trailing 1-0 at half Potsdam was getting decisively out-shot by the Red Hawks, however they still managed to keep it close. In the 51st minute, a corner kick by senior defender, Samantha Hubinsky, set up SUNYAC Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week, Brooke Falsion, to tie up the game for the Bears by heading the ball past the reach of the Red Hawks' goalie, Molly Barrow. Shortly after, Montclair State regained their lead in the 67th minute and were able to keep the score at 2-1 until the 88th minute where Falsion tied it up again when she buried the rebound from Rylie Murray's blocked free kick attempt back into the net, this time sending the game into overtime.

The first overtime went quietly, as the game was still tied 2-2 heading into the second overtime. Potsdam's goalie, Delphine Léonard, made a clutch save just over a minute into double overtime. The defense of Monclair State was the bright spot for them throughout the entire game, doing their best shutting down the Bears' offensive opportunities. However, a crucial penalty was committed in the defensive box by the Red Hawks allowing Rylie Murray to attempt a penalty kick in the 116th minute. Murray set up Falsion to send the game into overtime and then finished it off herself by blasting the penalty kick into the back of the net to give Potsdam the 3-2 comback victory in the double overtime thriller.

The Potsdam women's soccer team has got off to a great start this season at 4-1-1, and with hard fought games and clutch performances like this one, there is no telling what the Bears are capable of doing this season.
