Throwback Thursday: 2016 Brockport volleyball dominates the SUNYAC

CORTLAND, N.Y. - In honor of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) volleyball pool play kicking off this weekend, we decided to highlight Brockport's incredible 2016 season. The Golden Eagles were nothing short of dominant ending the regular season 30-3.

A major key to their season's success took place during conference play. They swept the three pool play tournaments they competed in. They defeated Cortland, Oneonta and Buffalo State at home in the first conference matches of the season. Brockport continued collecting wins in pool play when they traveled to New Paltz and beat Plattsburgh, New Paltz and Geneseo as well as Oswego, Fredonia and Potsdam at Fredonia. Brockport finished the regular season undefeated in the conference with a 9-0 record and were the number one seed and host for the SUNYAC's. In post season play, they once again took out Geneseo and New Paltz and became conference champions for the second straight season.

At 32-3, the SUNYAC champs were selected as the host for New York NCAA Regionals. The Golden Eagles handed losses to Gallaudet University in the first round and Ithaca College in the second. The third round brought a highly anticipated matchup against Emory that eventually ended their amazing run finishing the season at 34-4, one of the best seasons in the history of the conference.

Last season, the Brockport volleyball team took the conference by storm winning every match they played against SUNYAC opponents. This year the Golden Eagles will look to win the conference crown for the third year in a row, but this weekened, with pool play beginning at Plattsburgh and Fredonia, their opponents will look to end their streak.
