Several SUNYAC teams highlight regional, national rankings

CORTLAND, N.Y.- This week, regional rankings were announced for men's and women's soccer, field hockey, and volleyball, while cross country announced national rankings. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) was represented eleven times in these rankings.

Women's Soccer- Geneseo landed at the second spot in the East Region, right behind William Smith. The Knights have put together a tremendous season thus far, going 12-1-1 overall.  In conference play, Geneseo has posted a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming from a 1-0 battle with Oswego. The team has been guided by the efforts of two-time SUNYAC Athlete of the Week Audrey Reid, who has scored sixteen goals and tacked on five assists and leads the conference in overall points (37).

Men's Soccer- The most recognized sport in regional rankings this week, SUNYAC men's soccer took four of the eight spots in the East Region. Oneonta(11-1-1), Cortland(14-2-2), and Buffalo State (12-1-2) were selected first, second, and third, respectively, while Plattsburgh (9-5-1) came in at sixth. In conference play, Cortland leads the conference with a 7-1 record, maintaining a slight edge over Oneonta (6-1) and, Buffalo State (5-0-2). Oneonta's  Roberto Ventura currently leads the conference with eleven goals and twenty-five points overall. Buffalo State has performed extremely well this year on defense, with two-time SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Andreas Queen as the anchor in goal.

Volleyball- In the New York Region, which inlcudes eleven teams, the SUNYAC was recognized with Brockport at #5 and Geneseo at #10. Brockport owns a 15-8 overall record and is undefeated (6-0) in conference play, continuing its dominance. Geneseo, lead by four-time Athlete of the Week Grace Gergol, is currently 17-8 overall, including a 5-1 in-conference record. The Golden Eagles and Knights are in first and second in the SUNYAC, respectively, entering the final weekend of pool play.

Field Hockey- The SUNYAC is represented twice in the North Atlantic Region. Cortland (11-3 overall) is currently ranked second in the region, while Oneonta (12-2) took the fifth spot. In conference play, however, the script is flipped. Oneonta is currently undefeated (4-0) in conference play, good for first place, while Cortland sits in second at 3-1. Friday, October 20 will see these two face off for supremacy in the SUNYAC.

Men's Cross Country- Unsurprisingly, the Geneseo Knights find themselves ranked nationally in cross country.  The men's team is currently tied for third place out of the thirty-five selected teams, with two-time Athlete of the Week Isaac Garcia-Cassani leading the charge. The Knights look to continue their success in the SUNYAC, where they have won seven of the last eight conference championships.

Women's Cross Country- On the women's side, the Knights also continue their prowess, positioned third in the national cross country rankings. This season has been very successful for Geneseo, as three-time Athlete of the Week Elise Ramirez has guided the team with consistently strong finishes. In SUNYAC competition, the Geneseo women have also won seven of the last eight conference championships.
