SUNYAC teams highlight second week of NCAA rankings

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) had several teams featured in the latest regional rankings. The conference had ten teams featured amongst the sports of volleyball, field hockey, and men's and women's soccer.

Volleyball- This week saw three SUNYAC teams ranked in the New York Region. Brockport remained at the five spot after an impressive 4-0 week. Fredonia entered at number ten. The Blue Devils also went 4-0 this past week and earned their first placement in the regional rankings. After a 2-2 week, Geneseo fell one spot to number eleven. All three teams will compete in the conference championship beginning October 31. 

Field Hockey- In the North Atlantic Region, Cortland and Oneonta remained ranked for the second week in a row. This time, however, Cortland was able to take over the top spot, thanks to a 3-0 week. Oneonta stayed at number five, going 1-2 this past week. Both losses were against ranked teams (Cortland and Rochester). Both Red Dragon squads will compete in the conference playoffs on November 1. 

Women's Soccer- Geneseo maintained second place in the East Region thanks to a 2-0-1 week. The Knights picked up two crucial wins against conference opponents (Plattsburgh, Potsdam) and settled with a tie to Houghton. Geneseo is the top seed going into the SUNYAC tournament and will play on November 1. 

Men's Soccer- For the second week in a row, the SUNYAC is represented by four teams in the East Region rankings. This time, Cortland leapfrogged Oneonta to take the number one overall spot. They were able to capitalize on a 1-0 week, while Oneonta was relegated to the two spot with a 2-0-1 week. The tie came against Buffalo State, who found themselves ranked third for the second straight week.  he Bengals went 2-0-1 on the week, including an important conference win against New Paltz. Brockport took Plattsburgh's spot in the rankings and came in at number seven. The Golden Eagles were 2-1-0 this week with one of the wins being against Plattsburgh. All four teams will be competing in the conference championship that begins on October 28.
