Throwback Thursday: Plattsburgh Men’s Ice Hockey 2017 SUNYAC Champions

CORTLAND, NY. – With the State University Of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) 2017-2018 men's ice hockey season quickly approaching post season, we have decided to highlight last year's men's ice hockey SUNYAC champions.

With Plattsburgh having a great 2016-2017 season finishing 10-5-1 in the conference and 17-10-1 overall they were seeded second in the SUNYAC conference and ranked No. 15 in the NCAA. With a first round bye, Plattsburgh's first game in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament was a difficult challenge facing the red hot Geneseo team that shutout Brockport, 7-0, in the first round.

When heading into the third period of the semifinal game, Geneseo was up 2-1 against Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh did not go down without a fight netting four goals in the third period going on to win 5-2 against the conference-defending champion, Geneseo. Plattsburgh, ranked No. 13, had to face No. 2 Owego for the conference championship the following week. Ready for their 23rd SUNYAC championship, Plattsburgh defeated Oswego despite final efforts by Oswego scoring a goal in the last minute. Plattsburgh went on to the NCAA tournament, but fell short to No. 9 Trinity (Conn.) College in the first round 4-1.

This year's SUNYAC men's ice hockey championship will begin with first round games, February 21.
