SUNYAC Game of the Week: Bengals Battle to Beat Oneonta

Cortland, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected the softball matchup between Buffalo State and Oneonta as its game of the week.

This conference matchup was the second game of a double-header and full of offensive runs, with both teams exchanging high scoring innings in the beginning, keeping it close the entire game. The action kicked off with the visiting Bengals scoring two quick runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a Cassie O'Hern two-run home run. The bottom of the first inning continued to provide runs with Oneonta adding four of their own. With the bases loaded, Amanda Sexton drew a walk to bring in Selena Ruiz for the first run while keeping the bases loaded. Brooke Corbett then cleared the bases with a triple in the following at-bat, giving Oneonta its second, third, and fourth runs of the inning.

After giving up four runs in the first, Buffalo State answered back with a four-run inning of their own. In the top of the second, Julia Blujus drove in two runs and two more runs came in from an Oneonta throwing error. Oneonta regained the lead again in the second inning with RBIs from Selena Ruiz, who would go on to score on an error, and Caroline Koch.

Selena Ruiz drove in another run in the third to give Oneonta an eight to six lead. Buffalo State answered back with RBI doubles from Hannah Dunlap and Cassie O'Hern to put the Bengals up nine to eight. Oneonta brought the score level again but an Abijah Adams two-RBI single gave Buffalo state a two-run lead heading into the seventh.
