Weekly Baseball Awards Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its latest Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week awards. This week's winners are Cortland pitcher Jake Casey and New Paltz first baseman Chris Moran.

Casey threw a nine-inning no-hitter with a career-high 14 strikeouts in Cortland's 21-0 win over visiting SUNY Canton Sunday. The no-hitter was the 20th in school history and the second in as many days for the Red Dragons (Christian Dufresne no-hit Elmira on Saturday). Casey allowed five baserunners on four walks and a hit batter, but only faced two over the minimum as he picked off three runners.

Senior first baseman Chris Moran was dominant over the weekend for the Hawks. Moran started the SUNYAC series against Plattsburgh State with a two home run performance in an 8-5 win on Friday. He backed up the multi-home run game on Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader with another shot over the fence. He finished the week with three home runs, a .500 batting average, six RBIs, five runs scored, five walks, a .688 OBP, and a monstrous 1.400 slugging percentage. He was also perfect on first base with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Cortland will face Rochester tomorrow at 4 p.m. and New Paltz will travel to Schenectady to face Union College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
