Game of the Week: Brockport bounces back

Game of the Week: Brockport bounces back

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has selected the baseball matchup between Brockport and out of conference Rochester as its game of the week.

The Golden Eagles took part in a thrilling game against their out of conference foes. Rochester opened the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Brockport was able to respond the following inning when a Nik Malachowski ground out allowed Matt Van Allen to score from third base. The third inning opened up with another Brockport run as an Avery Brooks single to left field brought in Nicholas Pastore.

Rochester was able to level the score at two runs after Rochester's Aaron Craig stole home. After going down by a run again, Rochester's bats started moving as they drove in four runs in the sixth inning to go up six to three.

Brockport was able to get a run back in the eighth inning, but still found themselves down two runs heading into the ninth inning. Brooks led off for Brockport getting hit by a pitch and Tom Kretzler, the tying run, stepped up to bat. He reached first by a fielding error by the Rochester shortstop.

After a successful bunt by pinch hitter Austin Hall, Brockport had the bases loaded and they found themselves with a big opportunity to turn the game around. Brockport's Liam O'Leary did just that clearing the bases on a triple to put the Golden Eagles back up seven to six. A sacrifice fly brought O'Leary in to put Brockport up two runs to cap off an impressive four run burst for the inning.

Rochester did not have an answer in the bottom of the ninth and Brockport completed the amazing comeback with a defensive stand to end the game. A great back and forth battle ended with Brockport coming from behind and securing their eleventh win of the season.

Brockport has another game in Rochester today against RIT at 4 p.m. and then returns home Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup with conference foe Fredonia.
