SUNYAC baseball weekly awards announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its latest Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week awards. This week's winners are Oswego pitcher Robert Donnelly and New Paltz first baseman Chris Moran.

Robert Donnelly pitched a gem on Saturday, tossing a complete-game shutout against archrival Plattsburgh on the road. Donnelly was completely in control, striking out 11 Plattsburgh batters – almost half of the batters he faced – and not issuing a single walk. The senior also did not allow an extra-base hit the entire day.

Moran continued his powerful hitting for the second straight week by recording his fourth and fifth home run in the last eight games. In the opener against Fredonia State on wednesday Moran hit a two-run bomb over the left field fence and then finished the day by drawing three walks for a .800 on base percentage. On senior day against No. 6 SUNY Cortland Moran came up clutch for the Hawks finishing the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk to help SUNY New Paltz end the Red Dragons 20-game win streak. Moran's three RBIs helped the Hawks put up eight runs against a SUNY Cortland team that hadn't allowed more than four runs in the last 27 games. The Wading-River, NY native finished the week with a .357 batting average, .550 OBP, .786 slugging percentage, six RBIs, five runs scored, five walks, and two home runs over the course of five games. He also finished the week with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

New Paltz will face Vassar College on Wednsday at 4 p.m. and Oswego will face Cortland on Friday at 3 p.m.
