SUNYAC announces Dr. Sam Molnar Award recipient

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce that Geneseo's Jeff Doser is the 2018 Dr. Sam Molnar Award recipient. The prestigious annual award is given to a senior male student-athlete with the best combination of academic and athletic ability as voted upon by the membership body. Additionally, the student-athlete must carry a 3.30 Cumulative Grade Point Average.

Throughout his collegiate career as a member of the Knights swimming and diving team, Doser captured 14 SUNYAC championships in both individual and relay performances, in addition to four team championship titles. The senior from Penfield, N.Y. received the James Fulton Award in 2018, which is presented to a male athlete based on All-America honors, All-SUNYAC honors, improvement throughout one's collegiate career, and academic success. Doser was a four-time All-SUNYAC team member, a two-time SUNYAC Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and two-time SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner. His standout performances in the 2017 and 2018 seasons qualified him for the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships both years. He currently holds SUNYAC records in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In addition, he also holds Geneseo program records in the 200 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay & 400 medley relay.

Doser worked with Dr. Kristina Hannam, a Geneseo biology professor, to present at the North American Ornithological Conference. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa national honors society and Sigma Xi research society, and was named to the 2018 CoSIDA at-large Academic All-District team. He earned Dean's List and President's List recognitions six times throughout his career at Geneseo, and was the recipient of the Geneseo Foundation scholarship, Edgar Fellows Honors scholarship, and the Barry M. Goldwater scholarship. Doser will attend Michigan State to pursue a doctorate in forestry and a master's in computational mathematics, science and engineering.

This award is named after the late Dr. Sam Molnar - the former Director of Athletics at Potsdam, who served for over thirty years while coaching various sports. He served as SUNYAC President during the 1962-63 and 1963-64 years.
