Buffalo State director of athletics Renee Carlineo has announced the hiring of Nate Smith as assistant director of athletics for athletic communications and student support, effective August 1.
Smith served as the director of athletic communications at Alfred University for the past two years following a three-year stint as the athletic communications assistant at Skidmore College. He also worked one year as a sports information intern at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
A 2015 graduate from Buffalo State, Smith worked as a student assistant in the sports information office and also served as the sports director with the campus radio station WBNY.
Smith takes over for Jeff Ventura who is being promoted to senior associate athletics director. Ventura has worked in the Buffalo State athletics department since 1999 and served as the sports information director since 2001. Ventura will oversee athletic communication and will add corporate relations and development responsibilities while continuing other administrative duties, including serving as the department's NCAA compliance officer.
