Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport wins overtime thriller 2-1 against Houghton

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's soccer team pulled out a big non-conference win on Tuesday, scoring an overtime goal to knock-off Houghton College 2-1.

The win moves the Green and Gold to a 7-3-2 mark on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 5-6.

The first 45 minutes of the match saw both teams creating chances and firing 16 combined shots. However, the defenses played just as well and didn't make those shots easy. Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard and it led to a 0-0 score going into half-time.

The Golden Eagles came out firing in the second half and scored the first goal of the game thanks to Jason Hayes who knocked in his second goal in three games in the 49th minute after an assist from defender Michael Meyers, and made the score 1-0. The Brockport defense did a good job of holding the Highlanders scoreless for a majority of the game, but let a ball slip through and the equalizer was netted in the 85th minute. The score was tied 1-1 as regulation ended.

Overtime did not last long however. Senior defender Chris Aherne continued his recent run of spectacular play and headed in his fourth goal in six games and the game winner for the Green and Gold. Goalkeeper Joseph Romano finished the day with four saves on the day.

The Golden Eagles get back to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they travel to SUNY Geneseo for a 1 p.m. matchup.
