Cortland Drops Four-Set Decisions to Clarkson and NYU at Rochester Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Cortland women's volleyball team closed its regular-season schedule with two four-set losses during Day 2 of the University of Rochester New York Regional Challenge. Clarkson defeated the Red Dragons, 25-21, 13-25, 25-19, 25-16, and tournament champion NYU slipped past Cortland, 27-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-23.

Cortland (13-16) will be the sixth seed in the upcoming SUNYAC postseason tournament and will play at third-seeded Geneseo in the quarterfinals Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Jessica Allen (Syracuse/West Genesee) led Cortland versus Clarkson with 10 kills, followed by Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) with nine and Nicole Silberer (Centereach) with eight. Silberer also had three aces. Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush), an all-tournament team selection, recorded 35 assists and shared the team lead, with Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC), with 16 digs.

Rachael Aird led Clarkson (18-7) with 13 kills and a .545 attack percentage. Rachel Reusch had 10 kills and Jillian Saenz totaled 31 assists and 10 digs.

Nicole and Courtney Silberer (Centereach) each finished with 11 kills and just three errors in the loss to NYU. Nicole served five aces and picked up three blocks, while Graff had four aces and 20 digs.

Allen paced the Red Dragons with eight blocks. Amelio finished with 24 assists and 10 digs, and Margorie Didas (Dansville) ended with four blocks.

NYU (9-20) was led by Rayne Ellis with 15 kills and four blocks. Nazzerine Waldon chipped in with 10 kills and four aces.
