Brockport Dominates Alfred and Advances to Saturday's Tip-Off Championship Game

BROCKPORT, NY – Brockport led by as many as 32 points in the final moments of the third quarter as the Golden Eagles came away with a convincing 68-47 victory over visiting Alfred University in the opening round of the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.  Brockport will take on Keuka College Saturday at 4 p.m. in the championship game.  Medaille and Alfred will square off in the consolation game at 2 p.m. Saturday. 

Brockport improved to 2-0 on the year following the 21 point victory over the Saxons.  Julianna Taylor (12 points), Kylee Rosbrook (10 points), and Bailey Pratt (10 points) each scored in double-figures to lead the way for the Golden Eagles.  Alfred's record fell to 0-2 on the season.  Keuka (2-0) came from behind and topped Medaille in the opening game of the tournament, 53-50, to advance to Saturday's finals. 

Brockport scored 44 points in the paint and got 29 points from its bench in the victory.  Riqiya Harris and Erin Radack each netted six points for the home team while Rosbrook also chipped in with a team-high seven rebounds.

Gillian Flint and Ana Ion each posted 10 points apiece for the Saxons. Brockport scored 27 of its points off of 23 Alfred turnovers in the victory.

The Golden Eagles used a 17-6 run in the final 7:23 of the first quarter to extend its lead to as many as 12 points, 21-9, by the end of the first quarter. The home team continue to lay on the pressure in the second quarter, outscoring the Saxons 16-8 in the 10 minute stretch to earn a 37-17 lead as the halftime horn sounded. A dominant third quarter basically put the game away for the Golden Eagles as they outscored the visitors 23-11 in the 10 minute stretch to earn a 32 point lead, 60-28, through 30 minutes of action.

Alfred opened the fourth quarter on a 16-1 run in the first 5:07 to make the score 61-44, but the comeback bid proved to be too late as the Golden Eagles fought back and eventually earned a 21 point victory.

13 different Golden Eagles scored at least one point in the contest, including Zaria McCullough (5), Nicole Leslie (5), Chelsea Henry (5), Serena Sordetto (3), Allison Chiera (2), Bryn Hayes (2), Anna Felice (1) and Kayla Usborne (1).
