Red Dragons Use Balanced Scoring to Defeat Potsdam, 17-2

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Thirteen different players scored goals as the nationally 21st-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC play with a 17-2 win versus Potsdam Tuesday afternoon. The Bears fell to 4-7 and 1-3 with the loss.

Seniors Kristyn Drake (Tully) and Jaycie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) and freshmen Emily Goebel (Penfield) and Hannah Tiso (Somers) led the Red Dragons with two goals apiece. Sophomore Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) tallied one goal and two assists, senior Megan Gonzalez (Miller Place) recorded one goal and one assist and freshman Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) handed out five assists.

Seniors Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North), Carli Clementi (Huntington/Harborfields) and Sydney Oshinsky (Oceanside), junior Hailey Dobbins (Syracuse/CBA) and sophomores Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee), Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and Jordynn Aiello (Centereach/Newfield) each netted one goal for Cortland.

Freshman goalie Annie Casey (Bay Shore) faced just three shots on goal, making one save for the Red Dragons. Dobbins added five draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Clementi, Annable and sophomore Molly Newton (Skaneateles) each caused two turnovers.

Sophomore Lane Perl (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) registered one goal and one assist, and sophomore Alli Stark (Walworth/Gananda) netted a goal for Potsdam. Sophomore Alexa Ferrer (Warwick/Warwick Valley), normally a field player for the Bears, started in goal and made four saves in the first half. Sophomore Kayla McCabe (Watertown/General Brown), usually a defender for Potsdam, turned aside six shots between the pipes in the second half. 

Cortland took control of the game by building an 11-0 lead with 9:36 remaining in the first half. The advantage grew to 14-1 at the break. The Red Dragons notched the first three goals of the second half to make it a 17-1 score at the 17:29 mark before Perl completed the scoring from the free position at 14:52 for the 17-2 final.
