BUFFALO, N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's soccer team held off a talented Buffalo State on Saturday night for their first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), 3-2.
 
The Golden Eagles move to a 6-2-1 mark on the year with a 1-1 record in SUNYAC play. The Bengals fall to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
 
The Green and Gold got off to a fast start scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes of play. Sarah Covell scored the second goal of her career in the ninth minute after a pass from Myriah Saar set her up perfectly. Eight minutes later Covell collected her second goal of the game off of a breakaway to bring the score to 2-0. Saar netted the third goal of the half and her second of the year, shooting a one-timer off of a Buffalo St. turnover into the net. Defensively, Brockport was able to stand firm and not allow a goal in the first half, holding a 3-0 lead going into the break.
 
The Golden Eagles lost the shut out in the 59th minute giving up a goal off of a corner kick. The defense stood firm for the following 24 minutes fending off a constant Buffalo attack. Brockport saw the lead diminish again in the 82nd minute with the Bengals cutting the score to 3-2. The Green and Gold held on the remainder of the game and sealed their first SUNYAC victory. Goal keeper Molly Graves faced 19 shots in her 90 minutes of work and made six saves.
 
The women will return home to host SUNY New Paltz on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. as they continue SUNYAC conference play.
