HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State and Houghton matched each other point-for-point in the first set until a 3-0 run gave the Highlanders a 17-12 lead. The Bengals would respond with their own run late but it wasn't enough as Houghton claimed the first frame, 25-20.
  • The Highlanders used a slow start from the Bengals in the second set to take a 19-12 lead late in the frame.
  • Buffalo State took the serve back off of an attack error and scored the next six points to cut the lead to 19-18 off of a pair of blocks from Liz Schultheis (Holley/Brockport) and Bryanna Fisher (Brooklyn/Midwood).
  • Houghton and Buffalo State would trade runs late until an assisted block from Schultheis and Fisher tied the game at 23 apiece. The Highlanders would score the next two points to win the frame 25-23.
  • Houghton jumped out to an early 13-6 lead and used the momentum to complete the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third set.
