ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's tennis team improved to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in SUNYAC Eastern Division play with a 9-0 win over visiting Cortland.
With the loss, Cortland (5-4, 1-2 SUNYAC East) is locked in as the number three seed from the SUNYAC East for next month's league championship tournament. The Red Dragons will face either Fredonia or Geneseo in the opening round on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Binghamton Tennis Club. Oneonta will be either the first or second seed from the SUNYAC East depending on its outcome versus New Paltz (also 2-0 in divisional play to date) on Oct. 6.
Alyssa Brault and Julieta Eulau led Oneonta with wins at first and second singles, respectively, and together at first doubles. Mya Lipscomb and Samantha Felice were victorious at second doubles as well as fourth and fifth singles, respectively, and Danielle Swierczyna won at sixth singles and third doubles.
Cortland's
Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) battled in the first set at fifth singles before falling to Felice, 7-5. She lost 6-1 in the second set.
Nikaylah Williams (Wheatley Heights/Half Hollow Hills West) also played a tight first set at second singles but lost 6-4, then dropped a 6-2 decision in the second set.
Cortland is off until a road match at Geneseo on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
