Repine Posts Double Double In SUNYAC Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Hilbert College and Oswego split the quarter victories, but the Hawks came out on top, 50-47, winning their fourth basketball game of the season.

Ashley Repine scored three consecutive buckets in the paint and helped the Royal and White build a 13-10 1st quarter lead.

Oswego took their first lead in the second quarter at 6:47 (16-15) off a fast break layup.  From that point on, both teams added points on the score board only from the charity stripe.  With the score knotted at 21-all, Oswego hit the quarter's second jumper in the paint only to have the Hawks match that effort setting a 23-23 half time score.

In the first half, Hilbert held a 9-1 advantage in second chance points but shot only 38.5% from the foul line and 33.3% from the field.  Oswego didn't shoot much better from the floor yet they stayed in the game by sinking 9-of-13 from the foul line.

Taylor Corts opened the third quarter with back-to-back 3-point buckets and, after Oswego knotted the game twice, Repine muscled her way to two more baskets before the start of the final quarter with a 37-31 score in Hilbert's favor.

The Hawks stretched their lead back to seven points on two occasions yet the Lakers rallied and took their first lead (45-43) in the final quarter off a deep shot up top with 2:10 on the clock.

Emily Gawlak took over the game after that.

She lifted Hilbert back in front thanks to a traditional three-point play, responded to Oswego's score with a fast break lay-in at 0:45 and finished the game with another bucket in the paint with two seconds remaining.

Ashley Repine posted her second double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  She was also credited with three steals and one blocked shot.

Emily Gawlak knocked down 11 points, added three assists while Katelyn Proy was one point shy of another D-D.  She scored nine points, pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added two blocked shots.  Demi Battin shared game-high honors with four steals.

Hilbert improved to 4-2 overall and have a few days to themselves before they head to Alfred State for a 1pm non-conference game Saturday, November 24.
