Devils claim Brockport series

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Fredonia baseball team claimed a 4-2 victory at Brockport, riding the strong right arm of of Luke Kuczewski (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park). The junior righty went nine innings allowing five hits while striking out five to improve his record to 6-1 this season. Kuczewski had been going on three-days rest after tossing six innings in a win at New Paltz on Wednesday. The two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, the Devils claiming their win on a Ryan Landers five hitter.

Fredonia got all the runs it needed in one swing of the bat. Singles by Derek Fie and Patrick Sheehan, and a walk to Steve Zaprowski loaded the bases. J.T. Angora cleared the bases with a base hit. Two runs scored on the hit, and a third came around on an errant throw by the Brockport catcher trying to get Angora at second.

The first Brockport run was unearned in the bottom of the inning. Justin Larosa singled and advanced to third on a throwing error. He would score on a ground out.

Brockport made it a 3-2 game in the sixth when Anthony Eaton singled home Tom Kretzler.

Fredonia tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Kole Brink reached on an infield error and moved up on a single by Zaprowski. Sheehan hit a deep fly that advanced Brink to third. He would come around on a ground out by Angora.
