BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Fredonia is headed to the SUNYAC Tournament following its 6-3 win over Plattsburgh to close out the regular season Sunday.
In the winner-take-all scenario, the Blue Devils improved to 4-3 in the conference and dropped the Cardinals to 3-4.to claim the fourth and final seed and earn the right to take on No. 1 seed New Paltz at 1 p.m. Saturday.
That match will be held at the Binghamton Tennis Center, also the site of Sunday's decisive match.
The Blue Devils are 12-3 overall.
Fredonia jumped into a 2-1 after doubles competition, then clinched the match by winning four of the six singles matches.
Winners of both singles and doubles matches were senior
Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y./Wayland-Cohochton), sophomore
Sarah Bunk (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), and freshman
Mikayla Johnson (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern).
In addition, freshman
Jane Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) won her school-record 13th singles match (13-2), Miller added to her career school records for singles wins (38) and doubles wins (24).
Plattsburgh had won the last four matches over Fredonia -- in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016. The last Fredonia win came in 2009.
