GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's soccer team stunned previously unbeaten and 8th-ranked Geneseo 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a road SUNYAC contest. Oswego's upset of the nationally-ranked Knights improves its record to 7-5-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the league while Geneseo is now 12-1-1, 6-1-0.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half but that changed in the early portions of the second stanza.
Audrey Burbidge found teammate
Sarah Grupp off a set piece from the left side and the senior was able to finish in front at 53:31. That was all the Lakers needed to hand the host Knights their first loss of the 2017 campaign.
Goalie
Emma Allen earned a signature victory in just the 13th game of her young Laker career, playing lights out to help secure the triumph. The sophomore made 10 saves – including three after Oswego's goal – to prevent any Geneseo ideas of a comeback. Allen was just four shy of her career-high of 14 saves in a 2-1 loss at St. Lawrence University on Sept. 16. It is the third shutout of Allen's career.
Oswego had five shots on-goal in the contest, coming from single attempts from Grupp, Burbidge,
Emma Geyer,
Lynsey Roth and
Taylor Harrington.
The Lakers will try to make it a winning streak in its next game, which is the conference regular-season finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Cortland.
