Box Score Geneseo, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team played admirably against No. 8 SUNY Geneseo's Saturday, but had trouble limiting the Knights' potent attack and ultimately fell, 6-1.
"A lot of credit goes to Geneseo," said Hawks coach
Mike Eckberg. "They were clinical in their finishing and with their opportunities. It felt like we continued to fight and battle, which was encouraging. We have a lot of work to do as we prepare this week in training."
SUNY New Paltz (4-7-1 overall, 0-3-1 SUNYAC) diligently worked throughout the week on containing Geneso's quick strikers, but the Knights came out strong and netted four goals in the 14
th, 24
th, 31
st, and 33
rd minute to go into halftime with a four goal lead.
Audrey Reid gave Geneseo (9-0-1 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC) the goal advantage, putting a way a pass from teammate Domenica Piccoli to register her 10
th goal of the year. Leah Greene then added to the Knights lead 10 minutes later on an unassisted goal, before Reid found the back of the net again shortly after. Ashley Byrne registered Geneseo's fourth goal of the game to give her team a comfortable cushion at the break.
Ellie Gregory soon made it 5-0 for the Knights 45 seconds into the second half. Grace Dunnigan earned the assist on the play.
The Hawks responded about 10 minutes later, as
Alicia Fanni notched her second goal of the year after putting away a pass from
Danielle Grossi – her third on the season.
Rachel Walsh capped off the Geneseo's offensive night in the 63
rd minute to finalize the 6-1 score.

The Knights out-shot SUNY New Paltz 27-3 in the game, including 16-0 in the first half.
Katelyn Cordero got the start in goal for the Hawks and made four stops.
Megan Tornatore came in and played the final 21 minutes of the match and registered one save.
SUNY New Paltz is back on the road next week to take on SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh State on Oct. 6 and 7, respectively.
