CORTLAND, N.Y.— Buffalo State suffered a pair of straight-set defeats, falling to "Battle by the Lake" rival Fredonia and Plattsburgh today in SUNYAC play.
MATCH #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fredonia started fast and used a 5-0 run to take an 8-4 lead early in the first set. The Blue Devils then rattled off 13-straight points to cruise for the opening set win, 25-8.
- Buffalo State responded in the second set and built a 12-10 lead off of four aces by Abby Mosher (Little Falls/Little Falls).
- Fredonia returned the favor with a trio of 3-0 runs to retake a 22-17 lead. The Bengals rallied to trim the lead to 24-20 until an attack error by Buffalo State gave Fredonia a 25-22 win in the second set.
- The Bengals survived a 13-4 run in the third set to take a 22-19 lead late in the third frame, until a timeout by the Blue Devils proved effective as Fredonia scored the next six points to complete the straight-sets sweep.
- Bryanna Fisher (Brooklyn/Midwood) led the Bengals with four kills and seven block assists.
- Brittney Valentine (Marietta/Marcellus) chipped in 10 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Emma Booth led the Blue Devils with 10 kills, while Kailey Falk added nine kills and 15 digs.

- Fredonia struck first in the "Battle by the Lake" competition, earning two points in the season-long, all-sports competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State and Plattsburgh traded points early in the first set until a 5-0 run by the Cardinals pushed the lead to 19-9. The Bengals responded with five-straight points to close the gap to 21-16 until an ace and a kill from Plattsburgh gave them a 25-19 win.
- The Cardinals continued the momentum in the second frame with a 12-1 run to take a 14-5 lead.
- Buffalo State notched a comeback behind kills from Mosher and Danneile Arcuri (Holland Patent/Holland Patent) to tie the game at 19-19. Plattsburgh scored six of the next seven points to claim the second set, 25-20.
- The teams again traded points in the third set until Buffalo State used another kill from Mosher to take a 19-18 lead. The Cardinals rattled off a 7-3 run to close out the match.
- Mosher led the Bengals with eight kills, five digs and two aces.
- Valentine chipped in 25 digs, while Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) finished with 15 assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Megan Hyde was the only player to finish with double-digit kills as she finished with 10 kills and two digs.
- Lauren DeVoe chipped in 20 assists.
