MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Fredonia baseball team dropped a back-and-forth contest in 11 innings, 9-8, at Allegheny on Wednesday. After taking the lead in the top of the 11th, the Devils allowed a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take the loss.
Nicolas Fiore led the Fredonia offense with three RBI off the bench, and
Daniel Goodbread was the only Devil with a pair of hits.
Patrick Sheehan had five stolen bases.
J.T. Angora had a hit and reached three time on walks.
Freshman
Eddie Wasnock tossed the first four innings, allowing one run on five hits in his first collegiate start. Fellow freshman
Joe Iacovelli also pitched well, giving up one unearned run in three innings of work.Â
With the game tied at eight in the 11th, Sheehan worked a one-out walk. He stole second, then third. The throw to third sailed high, and he came around to score.
Out of pitching in the bottom of the inning, Sheehan, a senior, was then called upon to make his collegiate debut on the mound. He struck out a pair before a bases-loaded walk brought in the winning run for the Gators.
The Devils are slated for their home opener on Friday at 3 p.m. vs. Oneonta.
