LEESBURG, Fla.(csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica softball finished up their spring break tournament with a pair of losses on Friday. The first loss was against Loras College (Iowa) 2-0 and the second loss was against SUNY-Fredonia where CSS was run ruled 10-2 in sixth innings.

Loras 2, CSS 0
The first four innings were quiet for both teams. The Saints defense backed up pitcher Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and were pretty much three up three down every inning. However, CSS struggled a bit at the plate against the Loras pitcher as they also went three up three down every inning except in the bottom of the second when both Lauren Laviano (Maplewood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) made it on base for the Saints with walks.

In the top of the fifth, the first two batters for Loras got on base and were scored by the third batter who hit a double to the right center gap. Those were the only two runs scored, but enough for Loras to pull out a win over the Saints as they were unable to string together enough hits at the plate to get something going.

At the plate for CSS, Howe and Hadlich had the only two hits for the team. Howe also allowed just hits for the Saints.

Fredonia 10, CSS 2 (F/6)
The Saints started on a high note as they scored first in the top of the first inning. Howe scored off a double from Laviano also advancing Laviano to third. However, Fredonia came back and tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the second. It remained tied until the fourth when a pinch runner for Howe, Danielle Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS), scored off a Haley Rosenthal's (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) single to center field.

Fredonia didn't wait to respond to the 2-1 lead the Saints had over them and ended up scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 6-2. St. Scholastica was able to hold them in the fifth inning but couldn't do the same in the sixth. Even after a pitching change in the sixth the Saints couldn't come back and ended up getting run ruled 10-2 in the bottom of the sixth.

At the plate, Emma Sather (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser HS), Howe, Laviano, and Rosenthal had the four hits for the Saints.

Up Next
The Saints (8-6) have just over two weeks until their next game which will be their home opener at Kenwood Field on Saturday, April 2nd. CSS will face Hamline University in their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
