Buffalo State and Oneonta wear out base paths in softball doubleheader split

CLINTON, N.Y.—Buffalo State and Oneonta combined for 47 runs on 47 hits and 16 errors in a wild SUNYAC doubleheader split today at Hamilton College.  Oneonta plated 11 runs in the sixth inning to erase a three-run deficit and sprint 17-9 six-inning victory in the opening game before Buffalo State rallied for an 11-10 victory in the second contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Emily Frajdofer (Cheektowaga/JFK) belted a three-run triple, and Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) belted had a three-run double to pace the Bengals' offense in a rollercoaster game one.
  • Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhuch Colony) was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Abijah Adams (Rochester/Greece-Arcadia) and Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) added a pair of hits each.
  • Buffalo State jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning.  Oneonta rallied to even the score at 5-5 in the third.
  • Frajdofer's three-run triple in the fifth inning put the Bengals back in front and Buffalo State extended the lead to 9-6 with a run in the sixth.
  • The Red Dragons responded with 11 runs on nine hits and one error in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase the deficit and end the game.
  • The two teams combined for 26 hits and seven errors.
  • Marissa Hayes (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was charged with the loss, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs.  Dunlap came on in relief in the sixth inning and surrendered four hits and five runs.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Dana DelGenio was 3 for 5 with a double, a homer and three runs scored for Oneonta.
  • Kristen Collins was 3 for 4 with four RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cassie O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) led the Bengals at the plate in the late game, going 2 for 5 with a home run, a double and four RBIs.
  • Szymkowiak was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored.
  • Julia Blujus (Amherst/Sacred Heart) also scored three times and was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and three walks.
  • Nicole Adams (Lockport/Starpoint) earned the win, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs in the complete-game effort.
  • Buffalo State struck first with a two-run homer by O'Hern in the first, but Oneonta scored four in the first to take the lead.
  • The teams traded more runs in the second inning and the Red Dragons scored again in the third to lead 8-6.
  • Buffalo State took a 9-8 lead in the fourth on O'Hern's two-run double, but Oneonta answered again in the bottom of the frame to knot the score.
  • Abijah Adams (Rochester/Greece-Arcadia) hit a two-run single in the sixth to finally put the Bengals ahead for good. 
  • Oneonta scored one more in the seventh, but could not plate the equalizer.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Selina Ruiz was 5 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
