Brockport Wins Final Game Of Series, 5-2

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.— The College at Brockport baseball team salvaged the final game of the three-game series against SUNY New Paltz, winning 5-2 thanks to impressive bullpen pitching. The Green and Gold move to 11-11 on the year and 6-5 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. The Hawks drop to 9-10 on the season and their conference record sits at 2-4.

The Golden Eagles threatened early putting two runners in scoring position in the first inning. They turned the pressure on in the second and scored three runs. Liam O'Leary started off with a hit-by-pitch and stole second before moving to third on a Nik Malachowski single. Drew DeBlasiis had a patient at-bat and worked a walk to load the bases. Charlie Serino hit a hard ball to third-base and it was enough to score a run and give the team a lead. A couple of batters later, Avery Brooks recorded a two-run base hit to right field and put Brockport up 3-0 after two innings.

The Green and Gold added another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. O'Leary crossed home plate after being walked and a throwing error by the opposition a few batters later. Malachowski scored the second run of the inning after he singled to get on base and a Nicolas Pastore single brought him around. Brockport headed into the seventh inning with a 5-1 lead.

Alex Brown was the starting pitcher, but only went 3.0 innings. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out four. Maddux Minton was the first reliever out of the bullpen and pitched 2.0 innings of no-hit baseball. Trevor McCarthy took the mound in the sixth inning and impressed with a 2.0 innings of two-hit, no run innings, while striking out two.

Brockport is back in action on Tuesday April 10 as they travel to the University of Rochester for a 5 p.m. matchup.
