MENDON, N.Y. - Playing without its top two singles players and top doubles unit, the Cortland women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-league decision to St. John Fisher at the Mendon Racquet Club. Cortland is now 5-3 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 4-1.

Cortland had to adjust its usual dual-match lineup since Mia Hayes and Nikaylah Williams were competing at Day 1 if the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals in Saratoga Springs (their results will be posted when they complete play this weekend). Hayes and Williams play first and second singles, respectively, and are Cortland's first doubles squad.

Cortland earned one point in doubles action when freshmen Isabella Arrigo (Sauquoit/Sauquoit Valley) and Tina Wertman (Rochester/Caledonia-Mumford) posted an 8-3 win at second doubles. Arrigo was also victorious in singles with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory at the second flight to improve to 7-0 in singles play this fall.

Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) played a tight first set at third singles, losing to Sarah Sorrentino, 7-5. Sorrentino won the second set, 6-1.

Fisher earned 8-2 doubles win by Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell at number one and Grace Peter and Caroline Seaberg at number three. Saffran, Bell, Seaberg and Amanda Pengergast joined Sorrentino as Fisher's straight-set singles victors.

Cortland will travel to Oneonta for a SUNYAC East match on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m.
