Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport celebrates senior day with 7-1 win over Potsdam

BROCKPORT, N.Y.— The College at Brockport men's soccer team hosted SUNY Potsdam on Saturday as they wrapped up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a 7-1 victory. The seven goals are the most the Golden Eagles have scored since the 2013 season when they defeated Potsdam 7-3.

Prior to the game, Brockport honored the senior members of the Golden Eagle squad, Chris Aherne, Chris Shepard, Justin Mercer, Stephen Latino and Connor Melanophy.

The win moves Brockport to a 10-4-3 record, and finishes SUNYAC play with a 5-2-2 mark. The Bears fall to 6-10 on the year and 2-7 in conference competition.

The Green and Gold fell behind early, allowing a Potsdam goal in the first minute of play. The Golden Eagles were not phased however, as they converted on an opportunity in the 21st minute, with Cameron Beale netting the first goal of his career and evening up the game at 1-1. Mercer celebrated his senior day with a goal in the 29th minute after a well place thru-ball by Beale gave Mercer a one-on-one with the keeper to give Brockport the 2-1 edge. Beale then added his second goal of the game after a cross by Connor DeSantis hit Beale at his feet. DeSantis added a goal of his own just four minutes later, bringing the Green and Gold lead to 4-1, which would stand heading into half-time.

Mercer added his second goal of the day 12 minutes into the second half off a free-kick right outside the box, growing the Golden Eagle lead to 5-1. The Golden Eagles added another goal in the 68th minute with freshman Ryan Cullen netting his first career goal off of an assist by senior Melanophy. Michael Duren scored the final goal for Brockport in the 88th minute to give Brockport the 7-1 victory

Goalkeepers Joseph Romano and Kyle Zumpano each saw 45 minutes of action, combining for one save, facing five shots.

The Green and Gold play their final game of the regular season on Monday Oct. 23 when they host the University of Rochester at 7 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
