BUFFALO, N.Y.— Buffalo State rallied twice but stranded the tying run three times, dropping both halves of a home SUNYAC doubleheader against Oswego on Senior Day, falling 7-3 and 3-2. The Bengals earned a spot in the SUNYAC postseason tournament via a New Paltz loss to Potsdam earlier in the day.
 
GAME #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Julia Blujus (Amherst/Sacred Heart) paced the Bengals' offense in the earlier game, going 3 for 5 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
• Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga), Nicole Adams (Lockport/Starpoint) and Melissa Woods (Lakeview/Frontier) each tallied a pair of hits, while Szymkowiak added two RBIs.
• Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) was 1 for 4 from this dish and scored a run.
• Marissa Hayes (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was credited with the loss in the first game, giving up seven runs on 13 hits in 8 and 1/3 innings of work.
• Adams pitched 2/3 of an inning of relief.
• Oswego jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a pair of hits.
• Buffalo State responded in the bottom of the third inning, when Blujus stretched a single into a double off a throwing error and later scored on a groundout by Szymkowiak to tie the game.
• The Lakers scored one run off of two hits in both the top of the fifth and top of the seventh to take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the frame.
• Buffalo State scored on a one-out single by Blujus and on a two-out double by Szymkowiak in the bottom of the seventh to push the game into extras.
• Following a 1-2-3 inning for both the Bengals and the Lakers in the eighth, Oswego scored four runs on five hits in the top of the ninth to retake the lead and complete the win.

 
FOR THE FOES

• Angela Frampton led the Lakers' offense, going 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored.
• Rebecca Vilchez finished 3 for 4 with four runs scored from the plate and picked up the win on the mound for Oswego, giving up one run on seven hits in 7 and 2/3 innings of work.

• Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhuch Colony) and Woods paced the Bengals in the late game, finishing 1 for 3 and 1 for 2 respectively from the dish and each added an RBI.
• Cassie O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) and Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) each tallied a run scored.
• Silva, Szymkowiak and Emily Frajdofer (Cheektowaga/JFK) all added hits for the Bengals.
• Adams was credited with the loss in the circle, going seven innings and giving up three runs off of eight hits.
• After two innings of scoreless action, Oswego used a Buffalo State error and a homerun in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
• Oswego tacked on a third run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the frame.
• Buffalo State chipped into the lead with a two-run fourth innings off of three singles by O'Hern, Lynch and Woods.
• Buffalo State had its final chance to tie or retake the lead in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded but couldn't complete the comeback.

• Gabriella Vertuccio paced the Lakers in the late game, going 2 for 4 with an solo homerun
• Vilchez was credited with the win on the hill, allowing only one hit in three and 1/3 innings of relief.
• Frampton started the game on the mound, going three and 2/3 innings and giving up two runs off of five hits.

 
NOTEWORTHY

• Buffalo State will make its fifth-consecutive appearance in the SUNYAC postseason following a 9-9 conference record.
