BUFFALO, N.Y.— Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) posted a career-high 22 points on 10 of 12 shooting but it was not enough as Buffalo State could not overcome a late 9-4 Cortland run in the final 1:33 of the contest as it dropped a 90-78 decision against the Red Dragons in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Grant led the Bengals in scoring, while adding five rebounds and pair of assists.
• Ryniek Holloway (Corona/Bayside) tallied a career-high 16 points off of the bench.
• Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) and Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) each finished with 13 points and 12 points respectively, with Adams adding seven assists.
• Buffalo State and Cortland traded points for much of the first half, with neither team gaining an edge, until a 9-2 run near the midway point of the stanza gave Buffalo State a 34-26 lead.
• The Red Dragons responded with a 14-6 run of their own to tie the score at 40-40, but could not keep the score level as Grayer connected on a 3-pointer to give the Bengals a 43-40 halftime lead.
• Cortland regained the lead in the opening minutes of the second half and pushed its lead to 61-53 with 13:30 left in the contest, but failed to maintain the lead as Buffalo state once again chipped away at the lead until it was 63-63.
• The lead shifted back-and-forth, during the final minutes, until a layup from Kareem Holmes (New York/The Knox School) gave the Bengals an 83-81 lead with 1:33 left in the contest.
• Cortland closed the game on a 9-4 run, fueled by the Red Dragons converting seven of eight from the charity stripe, to claim the victory.
• Buffalo State held a 53-34 advantage in points in the paint, but were outscored 27-15 from the free throw line.

 
FOR THE FOES

• Justin Cooper finished with a game-high 31 points to pace the Red Dragons, while finishing 12 of 12 from the free throw line.
• Kenny Charles added 22 points, while Nicky Bonura tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
