BROCKPORT N.Y.—The College at Brockport women's soccer team fought hard in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) battle against New Paltz that ended in a 1-1 draw.
The tie moves the Green and Gold to 6-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in SUNYAC play. The Hawks now have a 4-6-1 mark on the year with a 0-2-1 conference record.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early in the game letting up a goal in the fourth minute. However, they did not let that deter them. In the 30th minute
Sarah Covell netted her fourth goal of the season and the equalizer after a pass from
Myriah Saar went passed multiple defenders across the box, bringing the score to 1-1. The score would remain tied going into the break.
The second half would see both offenses attacking frequently, with Brockport firing 13 shots.
Marissa Greiner, Covell and Saar had multiple shots on goal, and the Green and Gold had multiple chances on set pieces as well with nine corner kicks. Neither team was able to net a game-winner however, and the contest would head into over-time in a 1-1 tie.
"I am really proud of the team today," commented head coach
Mike Idland. "We created a tremendous amount of chances, which is all you can really ask. Sometimes you have days where the ball just doesn't want to go in."
After a lightening delay, both teams had multiple opportunities in the overtime period, but neither would take advantage. The additional 20 minutes of play would not be enough for either team to pull out a victory as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Goalkeeper
Kimberly Lubanski picked up five saves in her 110 minutes of gameplay.
The Golden Eagles are back in action at 1 p.m. on Sept. 30 when they host Oneonta for a SUNYAC matchup.
