SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Drop Tough Game Against Rival SUNY Oneonta

| By:
Box Score New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped its match Saturday at home against rival SUNY Oneonta, 8-0.

The Hawks (4-11-1 overall, 0-6-1 SUNYAC) started the first five minutes strong, gaining possession in the Red Dragons defensive half and putting some balls through their defensive line. They earned one of their two corners on the day within the first few minutes, but Oneonta took over the game from there.

The Red Dragons (3-9-1 overall, 3-4 SUNYAC) put away their first goal in the 14th minute after Jess Downin ran onto a long ball played by teammate Paige McDermott. Downin beat Hawks goalkeeper Angela Ratka (seven saves) to the loose ball and knocked her shot in the back of the net for the game's first goal.

Kennedy Cocozzo doubled Oneonta's lead about five minutes later, one-timing her shot off a pass from Julie Steinhauer.

Not long after, the Red Dragons scored on a similar play. Micaela Honsinger took the ball end line and chipped a cross inside the six, where Cocozzo one-timed her shot into the net to make it 3-0.

Emily Opalinski made it 4-0 before halftime, and Oneonta went on to score three more in the second half in the 54th, 69th, and 90th minutes, respectively.

The Red Dragons out-shot the Hawks, 27-10, including a 15-5 differential in shots on frame.

Alicia Fanni led SUNY New Paltz with six shots and four on target, while Julia Friedman and Monika Morasse each tallied one shot, and Jackie Donaldson Hawkins totaled two.

The Hawks are back in action next weekend in its final SUNYAC weekend of the season against Fredonia State and Buffalo State on Oct. 20 and 21.
