SUNY New Paltz Men's Soccer Fall 1-0 In Defensive Battle Against SUNY Cortland

| By:
Box Score Cortland, NY – It was a defensive battle between the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team and SUNY Cortland Saturday. The game was scoreless for 89 minutes before the Red Dragons' Jake Keller found the back of the net to give his team the 1-0 victory.

The Hawks (4-5 overall, 0-2 SUNYAC) bounced-back from a 1-0 defeat against Oswego State Friday and played well against tough SUNY Cortland (8-1 overall, 2-0 SUNYAC). SUNY New Paltz coach Kyle Clancy was happy with how his team responded.

"Great effort from the team today," Clancy said. "Real proud of how they rebounded after a tough loss yesterday. They came out with much more energy and went toe-to-toe with a great opponent."

The Hawks out-shot the Red Dragons 5-4 in the first half, but SUNY Cortland held the advantage in the following 45 minutes (8-4). However, each team's defenses stepped up to allow a combined five shots on target.

"We need to improve on being a bit more opportunistic with our chances," Clancy said. "As that comes we will put ourselves in better a position to win games."

John Guzzo got the start in net for SUNY New Paltz and totaled three saves on the day.

The Hawks are back home next weekend, taking on The College at Brockport Friday at 3 p.m. and SUNY Geneseo Saturday at 1 p.m.
