Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—The College at Brockport ended their weekend with a hard fought victory over Ithaca College, 4-2. The win pushes the Green and Gold to a 3-2 record and moves Ithaca to 0-1 to start the season.
The Golden Eagles fell behind 1-0 in the first inning as the Bombers were the first to strike, but bats from both sides were silenced until the bottom of the third inning.
Justin Valentino started the offense by singling through the right side. Back to back errors by the Bombers allowed for
Drew DeBlasiis and
Nicholas Pastore to reach base and load the bases. Another error after a hard hit ball by
Avery Brooks, allowed Valentino to score and tie the game 1-1.
The Green and Gold claimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. DeBlasiis singled and then advanced to second on an error by the opposing pitcher. A single by Pastore advanced DeBlasiis to third, and he later scored on a fielder's choice by
Avery Brooks to take the lead 2-1. Ithaca responded in the seventh and tied the game at 2-2.
After two more innings of quiet bats, Brockport's offense came alive in the eighth to take the lead that won them the game.
Tom Kretzler worked a walk, stole second and scored off of an
Anthony Eaton double to left center.
Charlie Serino pinch-ran for Eaton, and scored the teams fourth run after a Valentino single up the middle.
After today's double header, Brockport will travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a 4 p.m. first pitch time.
