ONEONTA, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men's soccer team played a close match against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, but fell by a score of 1-0.
 
Brockport moves to 6-3-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons now have a 7-1-1 mark on the year and are 3-1-1 in league play.
 
The Golden Eagles were neck-and-neck with the Red Dragons throughout the first half, with both teams firing three shots on goal and both having at least three corners. Defenders Stephen Latino, Connor Melanophy and Chris Aherne did a good job of staying organized and goal keeper Joseph Romano assisted them in keeping Oneonta off the board. The score remained 0-0 going into the break.
 
The Green and Gold defense continued to hold the Red Dragons scoreless in the second half with Romano making four saves. Quintin Volpe led the team with four shots, but it was not enough as the score remained 0-0. The Red Dragons knocked in the only goal of the game in the 80th minute. Brockport was unable to score the equalizer and would fall 1-0.
 
"Tremendous effort this afternoon, I am disappointed because the guys deserved a better outcome," commented head coach Gary LaPietra. "It was difficult giving up a late goal when i felt that we had a better of the play, but I am very proud of the team and how we competed all weekend."

Brockport returns home on Oct. 3 for an out of conference match-up against Houghton College at 7 p.m.
