Softball falls to Bethany, loses heartbreaker to Benedictine on Day 3

CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State fell to Bethany in the early game 10-3, and then dropped a 2-1 decision in the late game today at the Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Florida.
 
GAME #1 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chelsea Davis (Lancaster/Lancaster) and Laura Bagley (Clarence/Clarence) paced the Bengals offense, going 2 for 4 and 2 for 3 from the plate with an RBI each.
  • Hannah Dunlap (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) went 1 for 2 with an RBI, while Cassie O'Hern (Augusta, NJ/High Point) and Julia Blujus (Amherst/Sacred Heart) each scored a run for Buffalo State.
  • Marissa Hayes (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) was credited with the loss on the mound for the Bengals, giving up four runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
  • Dani Priester (Greenfield/Saratoga) and Alyssa Nichy (Depew/Depew) each pitched a one full inning of relief for the Bengals.
  • Buffalo State opened with a two-run first inning on back-to-back singles from Davis and Bagley, and extended its lead to 3-0 with an RBI double by Dunlap in the top of the fourth inning.
  • Bethany reclaimed the lead with a six-run bottom of the fourth innings and closed out is scoring with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and a late insurance marker in the bottom of the sixth.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Tyra Bell and Kathleen Fuchs each went 3 for 4 from the dish to go along with a combined three RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Gabby Capaldi picked up the win on the mound for the Bison, giving up three runs on six hits in four innings of work.
  • Erica Amoroso earned the save by pitching three innings of scoreless ball to complete the win.

  • Davis recorded two hits for the second-consecutive game, finishing 2 for 3 with an RBI single.
  • Dunlap finished 1 for 3 with a double in bottom of the fourth, while Blujus went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
  • Nichy also recorded a hit for the Bengals.
  • Oriana Castello (Pearl River/Nanuet) was credited with the loss on the mound for Buffalo State, giving up two runs on five hits in seven innings of work.
  • Buffalo State opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Blujus earned a walk, used a Castello sacrifice bunt to move into scoring position, and scored on a Davis single.
  • Benedictine matched the early Bengals' run with back-to-back hits to tie the game in the top of the second inning.
  • After two innings of scoreless action, the Eagles took the lead with a pair of hits in the top of fifth including a lead-off triple.
  • Buffalo State threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Blujus found herself on second with two outs, but one final out proved costly as the Bengals could not complete the comeback.

  • Abbey Pultz went 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Kaitlyn Velazquezz and Asia Robinette finished with a RBI each.
  • Alexandra Loizon picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings of work.
