Lakers Trounce Fisher for Third Win of 2018

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-7 win over St. John Fisher College at home on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 3-1 on the season, while Fisher falls to 4-2. It is Oswego's first victory over the Cardinals since 2005, the first time the two programs faced off.

Trailing 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, the Lakers came back with a vengeance. Oswego scored five-consecutive goals to take a 6-4 lead before the Cardinals managed to score one last time heading into the locker room at half. Goalie Kevin O'Donnell did not allow another Fisher goal until there were less than four minutes remaining in the contest. The Laker offense backed O'Donnell with two goals in the third period, and five more in the fourth.

Kyle Bacon led Oswego's offensive effort, scoring a career-high five goals. Caleb Alford and Tyler Nason each notched multiple goals as well, with three and two, respectively. Robbie Connors, Alex Sprague-Getsy and Tim Schof rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a goal apiece.

Oswego's aggressiveness was beneficial, as the team caused eight turnovers compared to just three caused by the Cardinals. Teddy Phillips forced a career-high five turnovers, to boast his Laker leading season total to 11. The senior also picked up a team-high six ground balls on the afternoon.

O'Donnell, the reigning Oswego State Athlete of the Week, was dominant in net. After the first quarter, the goalie only allowed three goals in the final 45 minutes of play. Making 11 saves, O'Donnell finished the day with a save percentage of .611.

Next, the Lakers take their two-game winning streak on the road for a 4 p.m. tilt on Tuesday with the Alfred University Saxons.
