No. 9 Cortland blanks Men’s Soccer, 2-0

CORTLAND, N.Y.— Buffalo State outshot No. 9 Cortland 13-10 in the contest, but could not break though as the Red Dragons netted a pair of goals in the first half to pick up the 2-0 victory in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Theo Pencic (Oslo, Norway/Heltberg) had a pair of chances to score in the first 30 minutes with his first shot saved and his second shot blocked to keep the score level.
  • Cortland found themselves outshot 5-4 in the first half, but made the Bengals pay with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to take a 2-0 lead at the halftime whistle.
  • Buffalo State had its best scoring chances in the second half, with a pair of shots by Pencic and August Finn (High Falls/Rondout Valley) and a pair of corners within a span of three minutes, but were unable to chip into the lead.
  • The contest became heated in the final 20 minutes as Cortland and Buffalo State combined for four cards as the Red Dragons held on for a win.
  • Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) finished with only one save for the Bengals.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Migell Ormsby tallied both goals for Cortland, with Miguel Tunas and Jake Keller chipping in assists.
  • Sean Kelly earned the win in the net for the Red Dragons, finishing with two saves.
