Men’s Ice Hockey Blanks Potsdam, 2-0, For Program’s First Shutout

NASHUA, N.H.Cormac Hayes scored on the powerplay with 9:50 to play which would prove to be the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory for Rivier men's ice hockey over Potsdam on Tuesday night at Conway Arena.

Raiders' goaltender Luke Newell also made 29 saves in what was the first shutout of the program's three-season history.

Rivier moved to 7-7-2 on the year while the Bears fell to 4-11-0 with the setback.

After two scoreless periods, Hayes tucked in a shot on a feed from Jon Tavella and Nicolas Paolucci as the Raiders took advantage of a five-minute man advantage to get break open the scoring and get in front 1-0.

Liam Hennessy buried an empty netter in the final minute to put the game out of reach to secure a break of the team's two-game skid.

Rivier went 1-for-6 on the powerplay while Potsdam failed to score on five extra-man tries.

Lenny Perno made 33 saves in the setback for the Bears.

Next up, the Raiders will travel south to Burrillville, R.I. for a Saturday afternoon tilt against Nichols at Levy Rink, with puck drop slated for 4:40 p.m.
