OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team fell to No. 16 Cortland, 11-4, on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Oswego moves to 6-4 on the season and 0-3 in SUNYAC play, while Cortland improves to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in conference games.
Although Oswego allowed just two goals in the second quarter, one in the third and two in the fourth, Cortland's early 6-2 lead after the first held for the rest of the contest.
Offensively,
Caleb Alford led the team with four points, coming from three goals and an assist.
Mark Niechcial scored Oswego's other goal, while
Kyle Bacon and
Jarrod Wilkom each collected an assist.
Goalie
Kevin O'Donnell played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers. O'Donnell blocked 12 shots that he faced to finish the day with a .522 save percentage.
As a team, Oswego was successful in 19 of its 22 clear attempts. The Laker defense caused seven turnovers in the contest, compared to Cortland's five.
Oswego now begins a three game road trip starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, when it faces Geneseo.
