Lakers Stifle Fredonia in Road Affair

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team tied for its second-most goals in a single-game this season with a 19-2 victory at Fredonia on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Blue Devils remain winless at 0-11, 0-5.

After earning an early 3-1 advantage, Oswego scored 13-consecutive goals over the next 37 minutes to run away with the triumph. At the half, the Lakers possessed a 12-1 lead and outscored the host 7-1 in the second stanza to seal the victory.

Six of the seven Lakers to record points on the afternoon tallied multiple-point efforts, paced by Montana Garrett. The sophomore beat the Blue Devil goalie five times and assisted on another Oswego goal for a six-point outing. It is the most points and goals for Garrett in 2018 and matches a career mark for points in a game, as she had six points in a 17-6 win against Potsdam on April 5, 2017.

The junior duo of Brigid Regin and Toni Laneve were next in the box score with five points apiece. Both Regin and Laneve finished with four goals and one helper to register their five points.

Tying a career best with four points was Kamryn Sherman. The freshman had a balanced day, scoring twice to go along with two assists to achieve her four points.

Senior Gemma O'Kane and junior Teresa Shattuck rounded out the multiple-point getters, each finishing with three. The former recorded each of her points with goals while the latter found the back of the net once and assisted on two teammate goals.

Jordyn Dala was the final Laker in the point column, finding Laneve for her final goal of the afternoon at 14:58 in the second half.

On the draw, Shattuck put on a show with a career-high 11 controls to aid Oswego to a 19-4 advantage over the Blue Devils. Garrett had four draw controls, Regin had a pair while Laneve and O'Kane each nabbed one.

Despite rarely being in its defensive end, the Laker defense remained stingy, causing 13 turnovers. Junior Danielle Walkr led the way with four while senior goalie Angela Ponto had three and classmate Seanna Laneve had two. Walker, Ponto and S. Laneve also were atop the ground ball category, with the first two collecting three and the S. Laneve gathering two.

Ponto was solid between the pipes, stopping seven of nine shots on-goal in 52 minutes of action. Elianna Sanchez played the game's final eight minutes but was not challenged in the appearance.

The Lakers will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they host nationally-ranked Geneseo at Laker Turf Stadium.
